Marianna

Teaching Artist and founder

Gloworm began in 2017 in a tiny room above a shop in Northcote, with just two children and a big, hopeful idea. From those early days, the studio slowly grew into the warm, creative community I now hold very close to my heart.

Before opening Gloworm, I worked as a freelance artist and illustrator and taught art to children in many different settings — from school residencies to museum programs, including the de Young Museum in San Francisco. Creating and learning alongside children has always felt deeply connected to my own art practice.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve dreamed of creating a space that feels safe, welcoming and full of possibility — a place where children can slow down, explore materials, express themselves freely and feel at home in who they are. Gloworm is built on the belief that creativity is not about perfection, but about curiosity, confidence and joy.

Every class is designed to be inclusive, nurturing and inspiring, guided by care, gentleness and a deep respect for each child’s individuality.Website: www.mariannamarx.com

Nat

Teaching Artist

Hello! My name is Nat, Pleased to meet you!

I’m an artist, musician and teacher at Gloworm Studios.

I grew up in Adelaide and have been an art kid since the day I was born! You couldn’t stop me drawing, painting, singing, dancing and just creating nonsense! After finishing school I went on to complete a Bachelor of Visual Arts and Applied design at Adelaide College of the Arts and very soon after made the big move to Melbourne which I now call home. I then completed my Masters of Teaching at Monash University, Specialising in Visual arts.

The following year I was very lucky to stumble into Marianna and her beautifully warm and inviting Art Studio Gloworm. It was immediately clear I had met my kindred spirit and since then I have been enjoying every moment teaching alongside her and growing this wonderful creative community of young artists! I believe each artist should be given the opportunity to create, explore and learn in their own unique way and this is when the magic happens!

Let’s create something special!

Goldie

Employee of the year (5 years running)

Let us introduce you to our employee of the year, Goldie! Goldie first joined our studio in 2020 and has been a stand out member of the team ever since. You can find Goldie sleeping in the corner of the classroom, sleeping in the sun in the courtyard, sleeping at the local cafes and sleeping just about anywhere else where a soft blanket is placed. Goldie's work ethic is questionable however she keeps us on our toes, quietly observing with the occasional dramatic sigh when she's unimpressed. Outside of work, Goldie enjoy's showing off her winter coats created by her dad @terra_rosa_gear and well.. sleeping. Keep up the great work Goldie!
